WINTER SURFING IN NYC

zolofilm's latest video project is about winter surfing in New York city. Far Rockaway in Queens on a cold January day is not as quiet as one would expect. Freezing air temperatures, snow on the beach and cold water does not deter NY surfers from surfing throughout the winter. Zolofilms talks to Manuel Huth and a couple of other surfers about the joys and pains of surfing throughout the winter in NYC. Stay tuned for our short documentary about these winter warriors.

GREEN ROOF AT SMITH SCHOOL

zolofilms documents the origins of the Alfred E. Smith's green roof and how this school is using this green roof to educate the students of Smith about ecological sustainability, conservation, and healthy eating. Check out their awesome rain water harvesting system! Thanks to Nathaniel Wight, the school's ecology teacher, and the science club, for letting us document this project.

BROOKLYN GROWN TOBACCO

Audrey Silk, founder of New York City Clash (Citizens Lobbying Against Smoker Harassment) started growing tobacco in her back yard in Brooklyn three years ago as a protest against New York state's increase in the cost of tobacco and the recent ban on smoking in public places. Today, she is growing 100 tobacco plants in her background and has quite a healthy yield of dry tobacco to make her own cigarettes. Zolofilms visits her home to document her story and hear about the process of growing tobacco.

URBAN BEEKEEPING

Up until 2010, it was illegal to raise bees in New York City. But no longer! Brooklyn based beekeeper, Tim O' Neal, founder of www.boroughbees.com, talks to zolofilms about raising bees on a rooftop in NYC. Check out his hand painted hive boxes and busy busy bees!

ARTISTS & REVOLUTIONARIES

zolofilms profiles Brooklyn based clothing designer, John - Michael Schlotter, and his eco-friendly fashion label Artists & Revolutionaries. What's really unique and awesome about John-Michael's creations is that he is recycling old leather jackets and re-purposes cashmere to make new products. His clothes are also genderless and size-free, dissolving the boundaries of traditional design.
